2 Peter 1:19-21

So we have the prophetic word made more sure, to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. 20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, 21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

Peter says something important about prophecy and the Scriptures here. He points out their importance to the individual—to which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place.  “Youhe writes, “pay attention to the Scriptures, because they are telling you important things; things that will bring light to the dark place of your mind.” So the Scriptures are for all, and they have a crucial role in bringing light to our lives which is like the dawning of the day.
Why are the Scriptures so important? They come from God through the power of the Holy Spirit—men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God. The writers of Scripture were not writing their own thoughts and feelings, they were writing what God wanted them to write by the power of the Holy Spirit and this is why the Scriptures have power, which is also why unbelieving men hate them so much.
