Mark 13:13 (HCSB)

And you will be hated by everyone because of My name. But the one who endures to the end will be delivered.

One can never accuse Jesus of not speaking the frank and honest truth.  Here he tells his followers that because of his name they will all—every last one of them—be hated.  This is a message sure to drive off followers who aren’t fully committed.  Jesus doesn’t seem too concerned about that, he seems more concerned with telling the disciples the truth.
This is a message we need to hear in our own day.  Since we are rushing right down the slippery slope of morality willy-nilly, our standards are increasingly at odds with the world’s, with the attendant pressure to go along with the crowd in order to get along.  We would be wise to absorb Jesus’ message here for we will surely experience it in our lifetime.
