1 Thessalonians 4:13-14

We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, concerning those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who have no hope. Since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, in the same way God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep through Jesus.

Paul is more concerned about speaking truth than he is about hurting people’s feelings.  Those who know people who die apart from The Lord really do grieve because they have no hope.  Ouch!  That is kind of direct…and painful…and true.  Even atheists who die [and are honest] say they have no hope in death.  That is worth grieving.
We who are followers of Christ are not like them.  Our hope is that, in the same way that Christ died and rose again, God will raise those [of us] who have died in Christ on the resurrection day.
     That is hope!
