Ecclesiastes 12:13 (HCSB)

When all has been heard, the conclusion of the matter is: fear God and keep His commands, because this is for all humanity.

In the course of Ecclesiastes Solomon looks at life from different angles and aspects, trying to discern what God is up to.  His conclusion is that in the myriad of acts and incidences in millions of people’s lives, he can discern no specific pattern which makes “sense” of life.  It is a mystery which only God knows.
His conclusion: Fear God and keep his commandments.  He understands that one cannot go wrong there.
We would be wise to listen to him.  The course of our own individual lives is no more discernible than Solomon’s.  God has hidden this from us.  However, we can fear God and keep his commandments.
