1 Peter 4:8 (HCSB)

Above all, maintain an intense love for each other, since love covers a multitude of sins.

Peter is speaking in light of  the fact that the end of all things is near—after 2000 years of history, we understand near as a reference to the fact that Christ could return at any time.  So because the end of all things is near we ought to maintain an intense love for each other.  Intense love is the characteristic that allows us to overcome the sins that inevitably crop up to come between even the closest of friends/spouses/people.
Is your love for those around you so intense that you can overlook the inevitable sin that will arise, dear reader?  Or reconcile if there is a tearing of relations?  This is the intense love of which Peter is writing.
