“For this is the kind of high priest we need: holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. He doesn’t need to offer sacrifices every day, as high priests do—first for their own sins, then for those of the people. He did this once for all when He offered Himself.” (Hebrews 7:26–27 HCSB)

What set Christ apart as the high priest that we really need?  He was:

  1. Holy
  2. Innocent
  3. Undefiled
  4. Separated from sinners
  5. Exalted above the heavens

Unlike the Levitical high priests, Jesus did not need to offer sacrifices every day.  Why?  Because He did this once for all when he offered himself.

That, dear reader, is all you need to know about the necessity and power of the cross.  It was once for all.  Which of course means, for you…and me.
