“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me, even if he dies, will live.Everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die—ever. Do you believe this?”” (John 11:25–26 HCSB)

Jesus speaks to Martha on the occasion of his appearance after her brother, Lazarus dies.  There is so much  here.

Jesus words that amaze us still.  I! am the resurrection and the life.  “Your brother will live again, Martha?  Yes.  He will live again because I am the resurrection and the life.”  Think of the sheer audacity of the statement.  Of all the people in all history who have ever lived, only I am the resurrection and the life.  This is surely one of the most outlandish statements in history, and then Jesus proceeds to demonstrate and prove his words.

Eternal life and death rest upon belief in Jesus. If we die and believe in Jesus, we will live.  If we live and believe in Jesus we will never, ever die.

Jesus finishes with words that come to all of us: “Do you believe this?”  Do you believe that I am the resurrection and the life?  Do you believe that eternal life comes only in and through me?  This is what you must believe for you to have life eternal.

Do you believe this, dear reader? This is what Jesus asks you today.
