“Who is a God like You, who pardons iniquity And passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His possession? He does not retain His anger forever, Because He delights in unchanging love.”
(Micah 7:18 NAS95)

There is no other god, nor any conception of another god who pardons iniquity and who passes over rebellious acts.  The God of Israel is unique.  He delights in unchanging love (Hebrew: hesed) and because of his hesed he has made a way for him both to punish sin and to save the sinner from punishment.  His solution:  Take the penalty for sin upon himself in his Son.  Amazing solution!

Paul the Apostle puts it this way:

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, so that He would be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.” (Romans 3:23–26 NAS95)

Like I said, an amazing and elegant solution, and one which I am very grateful God came up with.  I do not want to pay the penalty for my own sins.
