But do not forget one thing, my dear friends! There is no difference in the Lord’s sight between one day and a thousand years; to him the two are the same.” (2 Peter 3:8, GNB)

Peter addresses the conundrum that believers were expecting Jesus to return any day and yet he hadn’t returned.  He quotes Ps. 90.4 and points out that the Lord looks at time differently than men do.  In the Lord’s view, one day and a thousand years are interchangeable.  He is not constrained by the vagaries and distances of time.

The Bible Knowledge Commentary puts it this way: “People see time against time; but God sees time against eternity.”
In all likelihood we will be like the generations of Christians which have come before us and die before we see the return of Christ.  This does not mean that his return is any less certain or less promised.  There will be a generation which gest to see Christ return while they are living.

Maranatha!  Come, Lord Jesus.
