So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,” (2 Corinthians 4:16–17, ESV)

I am old enough to physically feel (and see!) that my “outer self is wasting away.”  One can try all the remedies for preventing old age and take all the drugs and get all the surgeries and ultimately it does not a bit of good.  We are all headed for the grave and there is nothing we can do to stop that, no matter how hard we try.

However, there is good news with the bad news.  While our physical bodies are decaying, the opposite is happening in our spiritual bodies; those are being renewed day by day. The word which we translate “being renewed” means ” to make new, which is from kainós (2537), qualitatively new. To be renewed completely by God” [Word Study New Testament Dictionary].  God is making our inner selves, our eternal selves, qualitatively new day by day.

Now we experience light, momentary affliction, but soon we will experience an eternal weight of glory.

I cannot wait.
