For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution,  how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation?
(Heb 2.2-3a)

There is one way of salvation for all mankind and it is a great way.  It is the way of Jesus.  There is no other way of salvation, no matter how men try and bring it about; not good works, not correct philosophy, not science, not knowledge.  These are all good things, but every one of them is fundamentally unable to handle the mess that is our own hearts.

Jesus came to take our mess, our sins, our shortcomings, our self-centeredness, and bear it all himself.  The God-man died for us so that God the Father could draw us to himself, thus propitiating the wrath of God which justifiably would rest on mankind.

Or as the writer to the Hebrews will say in short order:

Therefore he had to be made like his brothers in every respect, so that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in the service of God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people.” (Hebrews 2:17, ESV)

This goes right along with what Jesus said about himself:

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6, ESV)

The great way of salvation is a free gift through Christ.  How else will we escape God’s wrath?
