So Abraham called the name of that place, “The Lord will provide”; as it is said to this day, “On the mount of the Lord it shall be provided.”” (Genesis 22:14, ESV)

This is the name of the place where Abraham laid his son Isaac on the altar and took up a knife to sacrifice him in obedience to God’s instruction when he was stopped by the voice of the angel of the Lord.  Abraham turns around and there is a ram stuck in a thicket of brush.  God provided the sacrifice.

It comes as no surprise to the reader that Abraham would call the name of the place “Yahweh yireh” [The Lord provides/sees].

It is on this same mount [in all likelihood] that, 2000 years later, God will provide the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of all men and the full importance of this event becomes clear.  Abraham did not have to sacrifice his own son, God did.
