“For if, because of the offence of one man, death ruled through that one man; how much more will those receiving the overflowing grace, that is, the gift of being considered righteous, rule in life through the one man Yeshua the Messiah!” – Rom 5.17 (CJB)

Paul calls the salvation provided in Christ the reception of “overflowing grace” (CJB), it is a good term to describe God’s mighty work of salvation.  This overflowing grace is “the gift of being considered righteous” (CJB), the ESV translates “the free gift of righeousness.”  It is what Paul refers to in Romans 6.23:

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Salvation is a gift of God’s overflowing grace whereby God declares us righteous [even though we are not righteous] because His Son Jesus [who was righteous] died in our place.
