For on the one hand a preceding commandment is set aside because of its weakness and uselessness (for the law made nothing perfect), but on the other hand there is the introduction of a better hope through which we draw near to God.” (Hebrews 7:18–19, LEB)

Jesus is a”better hope” compared to the Mosaic Law.

  1. He is a better hope because he is a priest forever. vs. 17
  2. He is a better hope based on the power of an indestructible life. vs. 16
  3. He is a better hope because he became the pledge/surety/guarantee of a better (eternal) covenant. (vs. 22)
  4. He is a better hope because he holds the priesthood permanently. vs. 24
  5. He is a better hope because he is able to save completely! those who draw near to God through him. (vs. 25)
  6. He is a better hope because he always lives to intercede on our behalf (vs. 25)

For a high priest such as this indeed is fitting for us, holy, innocent, undefiled, separated from sinners, and having become exalted above the heavens,” (Hebrews 7:26, LEB)
