The haughty looks of man shall be brought low, and the lofty pride of men shall be humbled, and the Lord alone will be exalted in that day.” (Isaiah 2:11, ESV)

There is a day coming when God will finally humble man and take away his penchant for pride and haughtiness.  On that day, writes Isaiah, “the Lord alone will be exalted.”

The word translated “exalted” means: “to be raised, to be exalted, to be high, to defend” (Complete Word Study Bible).

Why will God alone be exalted? Because he alone is worthy of exaltation.  Man is not worthy of exaltation–even though he likes to think that he is–because he did not create himself, Man has no self-existence, God alone has self-existence, God alone is the great “I AM.”

When God ends history, he alone will stand over all creation as the one true God, creator, ruler, sustainer, redeemer, and ultimate High King of all things.
