But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.” (Matthew 28:5–6, ESV)

Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and John (along with other women) are the first witnesses to the empty tomb. I love the Orthdox Study Bible comment here:”These women are the first witnesses of the supreme event in all history: the Resurrection of Christ and the destruction of death.”

Talking about gaining a place in history!  There are a handful of women who get to witness the supreme event in the history of mankind; death is conquered, Jesus is raised from the dead, and mankind now has hope.  Talk about a story to tell to your grandkids…
