Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving;” (Colossians 4:2, NASB95)

There are some Bible verses that are difficult to understand, one has to consider the context and study the meaning of the words, and consult other passages written by the same author and other biblical books that consider the same theme…this is not one of those passages.

This is a passage that really needs neither commentary–it is abundantly clear–nor does one needed to be convinced of the necessity to stay alert in prayer [let him whose mind hasn’t wandered during prayer cast the first stone]. This is a humbling verse, a good reminder of what we are to be doing as followers of Christ, and a simple verse.

Devote yourself, dear reader, to prayer.
