“The one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.” (1 John 2:6, NASB95)

In the Christian life the proverbial rubber meets the road in action.  We can talk all we want about how devoted we are to Christ, but the proof is in what we do and not what we say.  Here John tells us that if we are going to claim to follow Jesus then we ought to “walk in the same manner as He walked.”  We are to imitate Christ’s life, actions, and attitudes.  This is why we need to hang out in the gospels often, because it is in the gospel that we see Jesus’ in action, we see his attitudes, we read his words, and we come to understand how he handled people.

To emulate Christ is a tall order and we certainly cannot do it without the help of the indwelling Holy Spirit.
